(Lily C. Cheng)
I am the funny teacher! Believe me. My name is Lily C. Cheng, and everyone calls me “Teacher Cheng”.
Ever since I was a little girl growing up in Taipei, I have loved playing the piano and singing songs. I enjoy performing on stage as much as I enjoy being a teacher! One of my first jobs was at the Bank of Communications, where I was employed for thirteen years. During this time, I organized and conducted a Bank Choir. The most memorable event during my years there was the celebration of our Bank’s 50th anniversary extravaganza. With myself serving as the conductor, my Choir performed in front of a huge audience at the Armed Forces Cultural Activities Center. It was quite a success! Since I came to the United States, I’ve been working in the field of accounting. This year has marked my 20th anniversary at the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Engineers, Inc (ASHRAE). Every Saturday for the last nine years, I have taught Chinese at the Chinese Cultural School. I will be teaching the Third and the Eighth graders in the Fall. During our recent graduation ceremony at the end of May, my second grade students put out a short drama – “Don’t Eat Large Cake by Yourself”. It was a very funny show and the parents, the students, and the guests all enjoyed it and had a great time! This Fall, these students will begin learning the third book, and it’s main theme is “Happy Life.” I will be mixing singing, game playing, computer and multimedia technology into my teaching. Needless to say, we will put out another wonderful performance at the next graduation ceremony! I taught Chinese at the Tsu Chi Academy for a brief period of two years too. In addition, I have also taught Chinese individual classes at home for eight years. Due to the fast-paced economic boom in China over the past few years, China has played an increasingly larger role in the world economy today. The timing has never been better to learn Chinese. The combination of bilingual tools, interactive conversation to improve my students’ interest and the desire to learn Chinese has been the main reason for the success of the individual classes at home that I’ve taught for the past eight years. It’s been a fascinating experience to teach Chinese, and I am especially a fun teacher to have, believe me! Please join me this Fall for a fun and educational experience!
